Just google "photo collage" and you'll find something helpful.

Examples

I created some examples.

"Last night I dreamed that my mother got me a puppy."

In this one, I cropped the woman and puppy out of the photo on the left, using photoshop elements and the magnetic lasso to cut her out. Then I pasted it on the photo to the right, and made the layer with the woman and puppy semi-transparent, by playing with the transparency levels of that layer until I was satisfied with the result.

This is actually a pretty big image (2.6 megabytes), and you can see it at that size by clicking on the image. I just found four photos, laid them out on a blue background, and put a small halo around the mannikin. the ladies in coats are standing in front of a metal moose. No collage is complete without a sunset.
