EXAMPLE 3: Those really small East Texas cemeteries. |
Navigating by Man Made Stars |
In the example in figure 5, the map runs from God’s favorite place, Henderson, Texas, to a couple of cemeteries east of town. This is one of the most difficult cemetery maps to make, because the cemeteries are not in the map database, and they are so far out of town that they don’t have addresses either. You have to get as close as you can, based on whatever directions you can find.
According to USGenWeb, Pine Grove Cemetery is found:
Located at the site of an early Cumberland Presbyterian Church. It is about eleven miles east of Henderson on a dirt road that turns off Farm Road 2867.
I’ve marked point 3, the red box, as close to that location as the directions and my dad’s fading memory can get me. My chances of driving straight to this cemetery with no more information than this are less than 100% - but I will know if I’m driving farther away from FM2867 by watching the GPS.
